There are many opinions as to the long term effects of stress. One thing is for certain and that is that people who live with chronic stress are much more likely to become involved in habits such as smoking and overeating. In other words they will do things that are bad for them adding to the harmful effects of the stress.
But the question is:“What is stress?“
It has been said that stress is how the body responds to any kind of forceful demands; that when you feel stressed by something going on around you your body reacts by releasing chemicals into the blood.
Dictionary.com defines stress as: physical, mental, or emotional strain or tension.
In other words stress is the emotional and physical strain caused by pressure from the outside world. Some stress reactions can be irritability, inability to concentrate, anxiety, headaches and a fast heartbeat.
It has been found that a majority of the stress that we encounter in our everyday lives is actually brought about by environmental factors that one can learn to manage himself without the need to take harmful drugs or resorting to other harmful habits.
It is also true that stress (emotional strain or tension) can be triggered by certain mental factors. But these too can also be brought under control and actually eliminated one by one, also without the need to take harmful drugs or resorting to other harmful habits.
The people you live with, the people you work with, financial situations, unexpected emergencies-all these can trigger stress in you life.
But the good news is that stress can be controlled and you can control it.
