Building Self Confidence

Lack of self confidence shows itself in many area of our lives. We see it in our personal failures. We see it in the relationships we never had. Lack of self confidence is unmistakable in the workplace and other social situations too, leaving us weak, defeated and lacking in self respect and self esteem.

The effects are devastating and have long lasting effects. The fact that most people have this problem to a greater or lesser degree doesn’t really help you much when you are kicking yourself for having lost one more opportunity because you couldn’t face up to it.

How do you get a handle on this? Understanding what the situation is and having a workable technology that works in building ones confidence is the key.

One action you can take to start is to set goals that you can get done. And then getting them done. You must use a principle developed by L. Ron Hubbard called “Gradients”. This means starting small and then gradiently (little at a time) making those goals larger. This is very workable as you can at any place along the  way observe when you have taken too large a step and correct it. So the mantra is “a little bit, then a little bit more, then a little bit more”. Before long you are doing things beyond your wildest dreams.

Now part of this is learning how to accomplish the tasks you set for yourself. So you may need to improve your communication skills or learn to feel more comfortable around people. Mr. Hubbard designed actual courses you can study to learn exactly how to do this. They of course apply the gradient principle and so are done one step at a time at your own speed!

You may want to learn how to play a Chopin piece on the piano. Where do you start? Start with beginner lessons on the piano. Learn the basics and then progress from there. Do not try to play the Chopin piece right out of the gate!
